Maaloufs Taste of Lebannon
Ok, so I’ve had falafel from Maaloufs twice now.
1. Got take out for dinner one night. The falafel stayed pretty well for the trip home. Comes in two huge open face pitas filled with three falafel balls, lettuce, pickles, chopped tomatos and plenty of tahini sauce. Hummus comes on the side, drizzled with olive oil. Take out order also comes with a side of yogurt and extra pita.
the good: the falafel taste and texture, the pickles are an interesting addition to a falafel sandwich, and also the hummus was var var good.
the bad: open faced is hard to eat and the hot sauce that comes on the side sucks - has that canned tomato paste smell to it and too watery.
2. Ate a falafel sandwich at the restaurant during lunch time. Better than getting take out, as the falafel was still warm. However both times it took a good 15-20 mins to make the sandwiches, not nearly as fast as the falafel places of NYC. Again it was an open face sandwich - not really a fan.
Oh well, maybe I can find something better in SF….
